Charleston in Conway
A Historical Charleston Style House
House Exteriors
Materials used:

As a builder, I looked for and selected materials
that require very little maintenance.
Cost was secondary.

The following materials were used for their
architectural appeal, weather resistance
and historical correctness:

All the roofs are 5 V metal in red.
Siding is HardiePlank Fiber Cement board. Impervious to weather.
All corner trim, fascias and window trim is Miratex.
The porch ceilings and soffits are HardyBoard Fiber Cement board.
Porch columns are fiberglass.
Window flashing, porch trim and detail trim is all copper.

The only wood on the
exterior is located on
the porch handrails
and pickets.

The 1st floor porch
floor is constructed of
Brazilian Tiger Wood,
installed with hidden
fasteners. Tiger wood
is 3 times the density
and hardness of the
traditional treated
southern yellow pine
used in outdoor construction.
The 2nd floor porche floor is constructed with 18x18 Porcelaine tile installed over a Schuttler Outdoor Balcony system that allows installation of tile in Balconies in hotels and commercial projects.

Porch ceilings are built in the
Coffered style. Many Charleston homes had this ceiling detail. It is also used extensively in the Conway City Hall Main Chamber, as designed by Robert Mills, the renowned architect of the Washington Monument and The U.S. Treasury Building in Washington.

All the brick was purchased locally and is a replica of Hand Made brick. Named Georgetown, after the area were many

plantations had brick mills in order to supply their building needs. A combination of Queen size bricks and Solid bricks were used for the construction of the entrance steps and  privacy wall.

The privacy wall is designed after the similar brick walls located throughout the Low Country.

Wrough iron was used as handrail material in the front, rear and house stairs. The use of this material allowed for artistic expression and enhanced the look and feel of the home.
