A Historical Charleston Style House
The Garden:

As is customary in Charleston houses, the formal garden is attached to the house and incorporates plants and statuary. The garden is designed as classic Parterres gardens of time past. Local and native plants have been selected to adorn the grounds.

Beds are located throughout to feature seasonal plantings such as daffodils in spring, Begonias and Impatiens in summer and pansies in winter. The Garden is designed with ease of maintenance. A water feature graces one end and a cherub holding a tray serves as a fountain. Water plants and water Lilies live along goldfish in the small fountain. A wrought iron opening in the fence allows a glimpse of the garden to passing walkers.
The Plants:

The Parterre garden is designed in four leaves and one is dedicated to roses, while the other three have mainly Hydrangeas. These southern delight are of several varieties, such as Endless Summer, blooms all summer, Lacy Tops, with delicate flowers and the traditional Mop Heads, in several color variations.

The Azaleas planted, another souther staple, are of a new variety. The Encore Azalea blooms several times during the summer and are small in comparison with the traditional Formosa azalea commonly found in the area.

Camellias, Tea Olives, and Gardenias also bloom along the beds. The brick fence has a collection of Lady Banks Roses that bloom white during the spring and cover the fence in blooms. Creaping fig is establishing along the fountain.
Herb Garden

A small herb garden is located outside of the kitchen. We plant Italian Basil, Tarragon, Rosemary and Chives along with spearmint, Lemon Sage and other herbs.

Spearmint keeps the area free of mosquitos and doubles as a fresh Iced Tea ingredient.
The Fountain:

A 3ft cherub holds a tray were water spills over. This cherub is standing on a pedestal located in a semi circle fountain. It is all located within a large brick basin covered by creeping fig and other plants.

There is night time illumination on the fountain.

The fountain is filled with aquatic plants. Water Lilies, Parrots Feather, Marsilea water clover and other ferns.

About 20 red goldfish make their home in the fountain. In spring, the local tree frog population takes over and make this fountain their home.

Birds use it during the summer to take long baths and cool down.
Garden Lighting

The garden and parking areas have 18 yard lights located thru out the flower beds.

In addition, the myrtle trees and the statuary have flood lights.

There is 2 500w flood lights that light up the house. These lights are on a timer and are used at Christmas time to illuminate the house at night.
