A Historical Charleston Style House
Southern Charm

As a 42 year resident of South Carolina, and owner of Palmetto Custom Homes, I have built and remodeled many houses in Horry County, however after spending one year in Edisto Island, south of Charleston, building a custom home on a creek for a long time Conway resident,  I took notice of the rich and diverse Southern Architecture.

We visited many Charleston gardens and historical homes, new neighborhoods such as Daniel Island, Ion Plantation,  and saw the marriage of modern materials with traditional floor plans.

We selected a local Architect with whom I had worked on several projects in the past. He accepted the challenge and agreed to incorporate all our needs into a new custom made plan.

Award winning house for sale, located in Conway, South Carolina.

The house is styled after the traditional Charleston Single House.

These houses traditionally are one room wide in order to allow the breezes to cool the house.
Large eight foot tall double mahogany french doors open to the porches in order to receive the cooling breezes.

The narrow side of the house faces the street as city lots were only 50 ft  wide and taxes were assessed on street footage.

These houses received many additions and grew over the years. Our design follows the single house architecture by adding one wing on each side and an addition at the rear to mimic a popular Charleston floor plan.

From the cast iron foundation vents, the operational window shutters to the copper gas light porch lanterns, we have strived to follow the classic Low Country Architecture..

All the materials were selected with ease of maintenance in mind.  We specifically avoided cheap and fake materials such as vinyl siding or plastic handrails.
Instead we used traditional materials such as wrought iron, hand made bricks and tabby.
